SAMPLE- 1 (Childhood Friend ielts cue card)

I do not believe in making a number of friends rather I believe in making real friends that's why I have only 4-5 friends. My earliest childhood friend is William who was my classmate. We became friends in 2008, when we had barely(Hardly) turned years old. We have known each other since we were in our third grade. His parents and my parents were very close friends. And because of our parents, we became fast friends. I would say that William and I were more like brothers than just friends.
His good sense of humour, the ability to make me laugh and his vom and the caring disposition made his inner self just as beautiful. Besides he was a very kind-hearted and helpful person. These were his qualities which brought us closer. We used to sit on the same desk in our classroom. In the evening we would meet each other and complete our homework. William was very intelligent so whenever I had any doubts or questions in my studies, it was he who helped me. He would solve my difficulties very easily if there was any topic I found tough in mathematics or any other subjects. He would teach me with a great deal of patience.

After completing our homework we used to play several indoor and outdoor games such as video games, basketball and hide-and-seek. Our friendship grew day by day. I found the true meaning of friendship when I became friends with him. We are still in contact with each other but presently unlike past, we do not meet each other physically. As he has been living in Canada for the last five years. We have a profound love for each other. Although we are living in different nations. So, this was the answer of cue card Describe a friend you had when you were a child.

Describe an old friend in your childhood

  • Who is he?
  • How did you meet?
  • What did you do?
I have made many friends in my life and a few are very close friends. Here I would like to talk about a friend whom I met after 7 years. His name is Mohan and he is about my age – 19 years. He and I were class fellows till sixth. Then his family immigrated to Canada and I lost contact with him. Two months ago he came to India and also paid me a visit. It was a very pleasant surprise for me. I felt very happy. We chatted for a long time. We revived nostalgic memories of our school days.

He is very tall and handsome. I remember vividly, how he managed to stand first in class every time. He also took part in extra-curricular activities. He told me all about his life in Canada. Also, he told me about the education system there. He told me that he was doing part-time work along with his studies. I was fascinated to hear all that from him. He is studying at Humber College there. His father is working in a gas station and his mother is also working in a grocery store.
When he told me that studying in Canada is much easier than studying here, I also got motivated to go and study there. That is why I decided to take the IELTS. If I go there, he will support me as I can stay with him in his house. He told me that there are a lot of scholarships for meritorious students. He has painted such a rosy picture of Canada in my eyes that now I really wish to be there soon.

Yes, I am still in touch with my school friends, thanks to social networking websites like Facebook. We normally talk about the things we used to do when we were little. We remember the old memories and laugh at them sometimes.
3. Should teenagers have lots of friends or a few good friends?
I think having a few good friends is always better than having a large number of friends. Few good friends give one a feeling of security and trust. Good friends are someone on whom one can always rely whereas a lot of friends makes friendship superficial.
